Colonial Flats was an apartment building just south of the Prescott Hotel on Seventh Street South. The Prescott can be seen on the far right of this photograph from a 1906 Fargo Souvenir Book. The building was later expanded as can be seen in the photograph below left. A fire destroyed much of the building when hot coals were thrown down the garbage chute. A portion of the building was saved and reopened as the Park Apartments, named after the nearby Island Park. It was also known as Park Flats.
The building was known as the Wilson Apartments from 1965 to 1983. Presumably it was named after the builder, Stanley Wilson.
The building remains today at 23 South Seventh Street as the Prescott apartments. When the building was purchased in 1983 and and renovated by Gene Shannon, he mistakenly renamed the building for its neighbor, the Prescott Hotel.
Thanks to Gene Shannon for sharing information about the building's history.
