Mr. Arnold sold it to Bill Fortune in 1957. The name of Gene's was changed to "Take Five" in the early 1960s. The Five Spot became better known as a saloon than as a cafe. Between Fargo's Famous Five Spot and Take Five Lounge the seating capacity was just under 600. Fargo's Famous Five Spot, Take Five Lounge, Sk Realty offices, Fortune Hotel as well as Emily's Dress Shop were destroyed by a fire in 1974. The property where the business stood was purchased by the then Merchant's National Bank and used for parking. The interior pictures below are from Brew, the Hamm's magazine for tavern owners (August-September 1958 issue). Pictured below are Bill Fortune, Jr. (proprietor), Betty Fortune, and John Dahl (bartender) on balloon night!
