There was always plenty of things to do at camp. One of my favorites was horseback riding. While few were afraid of the horse, many were nervous. The horses, however knew the trails well and plodded along reluctantly. Occasionally, one would spot the horse barn as we returned and take off at a gallop. One learned quickly to duck one's head as the horse ran under the low hanging roof.

The camp was coed and the girls stayed in cabins a distance from the boys. Most of the boys pretty much ignored the girls and vice versa. The same could not always be said for the college-age counselors.

When I was a kid in the 1950's, summer meant a week or two at Camp Cormorant. I hope today's kids have as much fun as I did. I don't recall selling mints or turtles to to go, might I might have.

We traveled to the Camp on a bus. The bus shown here is parked in front of the old YMCA building on First Avenue and Roberts Street.
