North Dakota Harness Company

The 1901 Fargo Fire Festival souvenir book lists the North Dakota Harness Company at 619 NP Avenue.

The book describes the company as having been started in 1892 and owned and operated by C.O. Smith and W.W. Smith. They were manufacturers of harnesses, collars, saddles, etc. Their business extended to South Dakota and Montana. Thirty people were employed in the factory. Their trademark as "Gate City" products.

The North Dakota Harness Company, shown in the image right from the 1906 Fargo souvenir book, built a new building in 1905 at 627-629 NP Avenue. The building was on the north side of NP Avenue between Broadway and Roberts Street. It was designed by the Hancock Brothers, architects.

It was still listed in the 1925 telephone book but I don't know what happened to it after that.
