J.R. McLaughlin's farm machinery business, known as "Machinery Hall," was the largest of the earliest such businesses. The engraving to the upper right is circa 1882-1885.

I don't know the exact location of the building but I believe that it was located on east NP Avenue along what was known as "Machinery Row." The view to the right shows the main entrance on NP Avenue. To the rear, the building was adjacent to the Northern Pacific Railroad tracks. The elevated area around the building facilitated unloading the equipment from railroad cars.

The F.J. Haynes photograph to the lower right shows the same view as the engraving. Note the sings for J.I. Case plows and Whitewater wagons.

The buidling was undoubtedly destroyed inthe fire of 1893.
