The postcard of "The Shops" to the left is dated 1909. The Mechanic Arts building was built in 1893-1894. It had a variety of uses including having a blacksmith shop and teaching the operation of steam engines. It later was used as a classroom and the administrative offices of the campus computer center. In 1993 it was torn down.
