Al Leimbacker was the manager of the hotel for many years. The hotel was purchased in 1932 by the Powers brothers. They in turn sold the hotel in 1969 to William Kenney. He sold the hotel to a religious organization in September 1974. The hotel is now a residential facility.

The postcard to the right shows the lobby of the Gardner Hotel, probably in the 1910s or 1920s. On the magazine rack are Peoples, Popular Mechanics, Railroad Mans magazine, Strand Magazine, Baseball Magazine, Lippincott's, McClures, Scribners, and Cosmopolitan.

The Gardner Hotel was a prestigious hotel when it was built in 1909. It was designed by the Hancock Brothers and was named after Frank Gardner, one of the large stockholders. It was located at 26 Roberts Street—on the southwest corner of Roberts Street and First Avenue (the site of an old stable). The rooms looked quite comfortable for the time (the postcard to the right is dated 1911). The cost of construction was $250,000.
