Fargo, North Dakota

Columbia Hotel

The Columbia Hotel was located on the northeast corner of Roberts Street and Second Avenue. The entrance faced Roberts Street. It advertised it self as the "leading hotel of North Dakota" and its rates were $2.00, $2.50, and $3.00 per night. I don't know when it was built but it was listed in the 1883 Fargo City Directory. Sam Mathews was the manager at the time of the illustration above which was taken from the 1893 Fargo City Directory.

The hotel was lost in the great fire of 1893 and was never rebuilt. A decade later, in 1903, the location was the site of Fargo's first Public Library.
