The earliest mention I have found to Monson's is the "Monson Trunk Factory" in 1908 at 618 Front Street. This store can be seen in the photograph in the upper right next door (east) of the deLendrecie building (which was only two stories then).
It was about that time that the "Monson Trunk and Box Company" built the "Largest Trunk in the World" as shown in the postcard below. That trunk was 18 feet long, 10.5 feet high, and 10 feet long. It was exhibited at the Fair Grounds in Fargo.
Sometime 1935-1943, the store moved to 606 Front Street and was known as "Monson's Luggage." That store is shown in the photograph to the lower right. It was still in business at that location in 1964 but by 1977 the building was vacant; Monson's had moved to West Acres Shopping Center in the interim.
