Front Street was the principle thoroughfare in Fargo many years. Running east-west, Front Street paralleled the Northern Pacific railroad tracks. The image above shows Front Street facing west from Broadway. At the near (east) end of the block is the Commercial bank. A the far end of the block is DeLendricies department store. Note that DeLendrecies is only two stories tall at this time. On the next block is the Waldorf Hotel.

The Bank and DeLendricies were the two anchor buildings on this block. Between them (moving east to west) was the Fargo Drug Store, Wilser's Drug Store, and five other unidentified buildings. In the image below (taken in 1910) we see the same area as above but DeLendricies has now added three stories. In the foreground is a buggy and a horse with a very decorative harness waiting in front of Shotwell's Florist.. Other modes of transportation include both bicycle and automobiles in this image. The latest in women's fashions is also apparent in this real photo postcard.

The name of Front Street was changed to Main Avenue, around 1955. I don't know why.
