In the image above one can see the Martin Hotel on Seventh Street South, the Commercial Bank on the southwest corner of Broadway and Front Street, and Moody's on the southeast corner. In the image to the right, one can see the Martin Hotel with water past its first floor windows.

Other significant floods occurred in April 1969, July 1975, June 1984, April 1989, and March 1995. Images of these can be found at the NDSU web site.

The BIG flood, however, occurred in April 1997. An early April blizzard, which dumped up to 3 feet of snow in parts of the northern Plains, contributed to the Red River flood of 1997. The flood broke the 100 year flood crest record on Thursday, April 17th, 1997, when the river crested at 39.6 feet (22.6 feet above flood stage).

The big flood came in April 1897. Fargo, just four years after recovering from a devastating fire, suffered a flood that set a record that wasn't broken for one hundred years. The Red River crested at 39.1 feet on April 7, 1897.
