This photograph of the 1897 flood looks south from about Roberts Street and First Avenue North. The photograph was likely taken from the roof of the Federal Building at First Avenue and Roberts Street.
On the extreme left, one can see City Hall. The street in the lower left is Roberts Street and the street running horizontally about one-third of the way up from the bottom is NP Avenue. You can see that water extended north of the NP tracks. The NP depot is not present became it was built a year later in 1898.
In the left center, the dark building is the Martin Hotel (shown on the previous page). Moving right (west), one can see the Dakota Business College (the large three-story building in the center). The building with the tower in the right center skyline is the Cass County Courthouse. The building with the tower on the far right center is the first Fargo High School.
