This enlargement of photograph postcard is looking west on First Avenue from just west of Broadway in the 1920's.

On the south side of the avenue (left side of postcard) we can see the Sample Shoe Store, the Red River Land Company, Berniers, the Nestor Cigar and Bowling (at 614), the Elks Lodge 260 (at 616), the Grand Theater (at 622), the Improvement Building (the first tall white building--at 624), the YMCA (at 632), and the Gardner Hotel. I am not sure of the buildings west of the Gardner.

On the north side of the avenue (right side of the postcard) we can see a clothing store (with H.U. Rydstrom and the Jacobson Land Company upstairs), the Stone Piano Company (at 613), two buildings whose occupants I can't identify, and the Pioneer Life Building on the corner.
