The Merchants State Bank opened it doors on the northeast corner of Broadway and NP Avenue in 1890. The bank became Merchants National Bank in 1906. At that time, the bank had six employees and $400,000 in deposits. The bank is pictured in the 1910 postcard above. Note to the north of the bank is the Western Union Telegraph and Cable Office, a sporting goods/hardware store, a fur store and a drug store. Bicycles and wagons were still the primary modes of transportation in 1901.
