The original Fargo House was built in Dakota Territory days and was located at 322 Front Street. It can be seen in the stereograph card to the right. It was a frame building later partially veneered with brick as can be seen in the picture below. It was built by John McDonough and sold to James Kennedy in 1883.

It was listed in the 1895/6 Fargo City Directory as the "New Fargo House" at 324 Front Street.
