At some point, the J.C. Penny store, like so many downtown stores, moved to the West Acres Regional Shopping Center.
I believe that the area once occupied by Penny's and the Dacotah Hotel have since been razed.

The left image is cropped and enlarged from a pre-1930 postcard. In the lower right corner, one can see the "J.C." portion of the J.C. Penny sign. A December 1923 telephone book listed the J.C. Penny Co. at 6 South Broadway. Similarly in 1925. Originally, any store south of the NP railroad tracks was given a "South Broadway" address.
At some point, the J.C. Penny store moved north across the tracks. The photographic postcard to right, postmarked 1935, shows the store as the second building north of the NP tracks, at 3 Broadway. [The Hotel Dacotah had the address of 1 Broadway]. The store was still at 3 Broadway in 1977 but was gone in 1984.

Fargo, North Dakota
J.C. Penny Co.

The three postcards below show the changes in the street front facades of the J.C. Penny Co. and its neighbor the Hotel Dacotah. Inthe postcard to the left, we see that Penny's has expanded to include the firstt floor of several adjacent buildings. The center postcard is from 1963. The postcard to the right shows the final building facade renovation.
